Wild Flora is a working flower farm in Chapel Hill, NC.

Our team of farmer-florists grows fresh local blooms, hosts floral design workshops, and harvests hundreds of pounds of wildflower honey each summer. We specialize in high-end floral design for our historic venue, The Barn of Chapel Hill, and we travel across North Carolina and the southeast, designing and installing beautiful florals wherever we go.

There are plenty of chances to enjoy life on the farm throughout the year, from picking your own flowers on special days to participating in our (very!) popular holiday wreath workshops. You’ll get a warm welcome when you visit the farm; we’re always excited to share nature’s beauty with you!

Visit Our Farm and Historic Barn

More than fields of FLOWERS.

The farm isn’t just endless fields of flowers; we also have an apiary and observational hive. Our historic venue, The Barn of Chapel Hill, is also right here on-site for weddings and special events.

The World Renewed

Spring at Wild Flora is a time of new beginnings, bright pops of color, and warm morning light.

We don’t have sheep bounding around, but we do have plenty of blooms and busy bees!

Peonies in bloom

Spring is the season of peonies at Wild Flora, our showstopper on the farm.

They make the sweetest gift for Mother’s Day and earn raving fans at all of our weddings this time of year.

Buzzing Back to Life

You’ll see our bees fly from bloom to bloom, collecting fresh pollen and nectar. (A single worker bee can visit up to 2000 flowers per day!)

After the dark days of winter cooped up inside, it’s time to regenerate their honey stores and grow the hive. Spring is the most important time of year for our bees!

 June-August

Lazy days of summer

Summer means steamy North Carolina heat and cold glasses of sweet tea.

Here at Wild Flora, it’s the perfect time to enjoy evenings on the farm and prepare for the harvest that’s to come.

Hydrangeas Galore

While the peonies are done by summer and the dahlias haven’t yet bloomed, hydrangeas steal the show.

There’s nothing quite like the pinks, purples, and blues of hydrangeas surrounded by lush, green foliage at this time of year.

Honey Harvest

It’s finally time to taste some fresh honey! Our bees have worked so hard since spring to rebuild their honey stores beyond what’s needed for the hive.

We’ll harvest the honey right before your eyes for a sweet, local treat made from the nectar of our very own flowers!

 September-November

A Time of Change

The long days wane, days turn cool, and colors change at Wild Flora. Fall is nothing less than a magical time of year.

With so many rich colors, tones, and textures on the farm, it’s no wonder this is a favorite season for weddings right here at The Barn of Chapel Hill. Our wedding floral designers just love it!

Dahlias

It wouldn’t be fall at Wild Flora without our dahlias in bloom. These sun-loving fan favorites show up in countless arrangements, especially at the start of the season.

Whether for a garden-inspired wedding, workshop, or autumn event, our dahlias are fresh and vibrant as ever in the fall.

Prepare for Winter

After the successful summer harvest, our bees go back to work collecting pollen and nectar from this season’s blooms.

They’ll be huddled together all winter and need plenty of honey to prepare. You can see how they work away in our observational hive.

December-February

A Time of Rest

After a hard year’s work, the farm is put to bed, and we begin preparing for spring. Our greenhouse fills with tiny seedlings, happily growing in the warm, bright environment until they can safely be planted out in the spring.

Winter is beautiful on the farm because of the peace and stillness it brings.

Evergreens

Once the flowers are gone for the season, it’s time for the evergreens to shine.

Picture fragrant winter wreaths made from evergreen branches twined with magnolias and berries. With a naturally organic, Wild Flora “look”, these wreaths are the perfect holiday decoration for homes across Chapel Hill.

Wintertime for Bees and Flowers

There’s still plenty of life on the farm in winter if you know where to look.

Over in our heated greenhouse, tiny green plants are warm and safe, growing in crates and pots.

And deep in their hives, our bees spend the winter huddled together for warmth. Just like us, they can’t wait for next spring!
